I thought I’d take part in the May Challenge. I haven’t managed to take photos every day or post them to Flickr, but here’s a couple from week 3: shoes.

This is the same flower as the last photo, but with a higher (longer?) DoF. Unfortunately I didn’t have one with the exact same angle.
Which one do you prefer?

I love when I can carry my camera anywhere and have a play. This was taken at my mother-in-law’s place. Playing with the depth of field with my new 50mm (and the functions in Priority mode that I only just discovered). I will probably post a less shallow version soon too.

I’m surprised that I haven’t posted more photos taken in San Francisco. I guess I got distracted by starting a 365 project (which I’ve postponed now).
I took RAW photos on one day while I was there, but then got a afraid because I didn’t know how to edit them properly. I wish I’d taken more [...]

A seagull flying over San Francisco bay.
This is one shot, edited into two exposures from RAW and masked to reveal the darker sky and normally exposed bird. Let me know what you think!

This photo is almost as is. Taken from a ferry where the sun was reflecting very brightly on the water.

This is one from San Fran (obviously!). It was processed from RAW - reduced saturation and some vignette. I kind of like it, but it’s only the third RAW photo I’ve processed. I’d love some feedback!

I’m really loving RAW and Ufraw right now!
I was afraid to shoot in RAW before because I just didn’t know how to edit it, but now I really do have more control. I hope to write up something about using Ufraw for beginners. If I found the instructions on the website difficult, I’m sure others [...]

My husband bought me a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Nikkor lens. I’m pretty excite about it. Can’t wait for some really good shooting opportunities. After an abysmal first shot, which I deleted, I took the shot below. I also used my old speed-light, bounced off the wall. The speed-light was obviously way too bright, but I [...]

This one was taken in San Francisco. I was on a cruise and the white wash looked cool, such a great texture.
I dramatised the light a bit in this one. Do you think it’s too much?

These little guys made of Fimo (a plasticine that you bake so it goes hard) have been sitting on top of my computer for yonkers (since July 2007). They’ve never been baked… you can even see the dust on them. I was rather happy with this shot, they look so cute and solitary on their [...]

My brother asked me if I knew how to create a sort of “noir” image. I didn’t really know what he meant (until he showed me an example) and I didn’t know how to make one, but I gave it ago.
This photo is of my husband being a good sport in our hallway, then I [...]

This moment was so precious. The little boy thought it was excellent fun to run. You should have heard him giggling as they ran down the pathway! My little camera phone didn’t quite capture it, but the story is there. :)

This was definitely a photo representing the day: “Today…” It’s a quote in Hebrews from Psalm 95, which apparently is the Psalm that Anglicans are supposed to read everyday.
This was day 6 out of 366, 5th March 2008.

I bought some crayons at San Francisco airport because they make a good photo subject and they were cheaper than they are here. I was a bit disappointed with this shot. I couldn’t get the DoF I wanted. I will definitely play more with them.

There were a couple of possums running across the power line and into the tree on Sunday night. It was kinda cool. I’ve started using my phone camera a bit more. Sometimes the results are surprising – this one was unexpectedly clear for night time. Though I’m finding most shots are a bit average unless [...]
