I got a new lens a little while ago! The Nikon 24mm f2.8. Sadly, I haven’t had much opportunity to play with it, but I did take it on a walk with me a couple of weeks ago and took this photo of one of my favourite spots near my home.
- Aperture: f/8
- Camera: NIKON D50
- Focal length: 24 mm
- ISO: 400
- Location: 33° 42.05′ 0″ S 151° 5.8′ 0″ E
- Shutter speed: 1/30 s

If it was my photo,
I would throw a really hard vignette, pump the contrast, and desaturate it, so that it was nice and dark and moody…..but I tend to over process so I’m not sure if I would take my advice..hehe
Like how you’ve got Thesography set up, looks neat. Any thoughts on how to use it on a multiple image lay out as I tend to post my photos as a gallery more than single images..
This is gorgeous!
I’m with Mat, though – I’d pump the contrast. But, I’m always one to over-contrast something. ;)
Hey Mat,
You know, I haven’t done much of that type of processing for a long time. I mainly tweak levels, boost sharpness and sometimes definition and that’s about it. I think I have been turned off vignettes after seeing them way overused (it was, afterall, a lens defect); I still like them done well though.
For kicks I tried your suggestion… I like it! Maybe not as dark as you were thinking, and not 100% desaturated, but yeah… good call!

Regarding Thesography: at the moment you can use shortcodes with the image ID so that you can specify images, not just the first one attached. So, in that way you can have multiple image EXIF in one post. In the future I hope to do something a bit more natural, such as an option when inserting the image to automatically add the shortcode, or a filter for the image caption to add the EXIF to it, or something like that.
Thanks Jamie! (missed your comment when I was typing mine :-P) Yeah I like the newer version… Even though the original image I posted are the colours in real life, the desaturated one feels more like how I feel when I’m walking on that path.
Wow, I put the 2 pictures side by side, that gave completely different “feelings”, amazing!
I think that more dessaturation would give more “vintage” effect but would take the “soul” of the original shot.
Hi! It’s been a looooong time. :) I came across your site via my stats & I’m so happy!! Your photography is gorgeous. I especially love this one. It’s very fairytale. Hope you are well!
Hi Mags! Good to hear from you.
Thankyou re: my photography! That’s very nice to read :-)
That’s how I feel about this photo too. That spot is like a little fairy tale escape in the middle of my reasonably busy suburb.
