Kevin & Limin asked me to take some pre-wedding photos of them for an album they could show guests at their wedding. I hadn’t heard of this before, but Kevin told me it’s quite common in Singapore.
We went to the Hunter Valley and to Sydney city. The Hunter was super hot and we were in full sun for most of the day — it would have been nice to get some magic hour lighting, but in the middle of an Australian summer it wasn’t doable (daylight for about 16 hours a day). Sydney clouded over in the afternoon making the light a challenge, with very bright skies and dark subjects. However, despite those things (or perhaps because of the challenge) I really enjoyed the shoot; I hope they did too.
These are some of my favourite images of the couple (especially the one with the pink umbrella).

I LOVE the one of them laughing in front of the Harbour bridge. Perfectly candid.

looks good 🙂 I bought a cam few months back, but I am too shy to hang out with the cam 😀 ssssh don’t tell anyone .. ( anways, I have taken a few pics after I got the cam )

dinu — I know what you mean about being shy with the camera. It really depends what crowd I’m around as to how many shots I take. My immediate family I don’t mind and my church friends I take heaps. Others I’m not as open with it. It’s easier when your purpose there is to take photos. I even had an bit of a run-in with my uncle at Christmas because he was in a bad mood and hates photos — won’t make that mistake again! As TWiP says though: take the lens cap off (or turn the camera on)!

Hi Kristarella,
Love your site. Love your techy tips too. I’m wondering what plugin (is it a plugin?) that you used for the images here. I’m having a heck of a time finding what I need. This is perfect for the application I have in mind. The site I will use it on has a Thesis Theme. I’m not great at CSS, and sketchy at best with HTML, just to give you a sense of my skill level – or lack thereof. 🙂

Linsey — I’m using the regular WP insert gallery for the thumbnails and then Shadowbox JS plugin to show the larger images in an overlay.

Pre-wedding photoshoots are common in Malaysia too (and you know, Singapore used to be part of Malaysia?)

Kristarella,
I like the black and white picture. What kind of camera are you using?
kristarella says
Pelf — I didn’t know that!
Miguel — I like that one too, I wish there were more that lent themselves to being black and white. Those old stones were just screaming for it though. I have a Nikon D50 at the moment. I want to get a D300 sometime this year, unless something else between it and the the D700 comes out. Although the guys on TWiP said they didn’t think the D300 was really worth it and the D90 and D700 are where it’s at. Will have to research more.

Hey Kristen, was wondering if you would put our pic in ur site.. and u did! =) And yeah, thanks so much for helping us out for the photoshoot. The photos really turn out very well. Prolly u can consider doing full time photography as well. And yup, the few black & white photos were really refreshing, when you see almost all the pics are in colours and suddenly a B&W pic pops up.
Btw, we are planning to have sorta a gallery style presentation to showcase our wedding pic, during the pre-dinner reception. In a way, it’s like ur very own photo gallery as well.. =)
PS: Singapore did indeed used to be part of m’sia.. but that was eons ago!
kristarella says
Hey Kev, thanks for stopping by. So good to hear that you liked them, you made my morning.
Good luck with all the wedding plans these next few months!
