Microsoft: helping kids or themselves?

21 May 2008 · 3 comments · tagged with

If you watch a short video of kids introducing Office 2007. Microsoft will donate $1 to the Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.

Sounds cool right?

It would be super if you didn’t have to install more software to watch the video!!!

By clicking “click to install” you accept the Silverlight License Agreement

Yeah… right.

hmmm… I’m very much anti-Microsoft, and I hate it when they try to collect my information or get me to install software!

lol? Mac is doing that, too. When I first used my mac mini the asked me: do you want do buy this software (…blablabla 1 Year for 99 US$)

When I clicked “No” the next window asked me something like that:

-First Name
-Surname
-Street
-Number
-City
-Postal Code
-Phone Number
-Where are you working?
-What are your hobbies?

So you still think Microsoft is the big bad boy? Only because your MacBook is white doesn’t mean the some of Steve Jobs is…

Apple isn’t god and Microsoft isn’t the devil. There are advantages on both systems but stop that kiddie bashing.

And I am not a Microsoft fanboy, I am using both Systems.

Best regards from Germany

Barret – thanks for your thoughts. I mostly agree; I don’t think I’m under any delusions about a benevolent company Apple and the evil Microsoft. They’re both there to make money.

I’m as happy to bash Apple as I am to bash Microsoft, but the fact is that Apple makes good products and do less stupid things. If you want to hear about some stupid Apple things ask me about the requirement to buy iLife ’08 to get print products shipped to Australia or Numbers extremely limited ability to crunch numbers.

Your example sounds like you were using the trial of .Mac ‐ show me anyone who sensibly allows people to use server space, file transfer, access from anywhere data, without taking personal details, even for a trial. I don’t think they exist.
