Fleur de lys

This is my parents’ pool fence. I thought it looked kinda cool in front of the water.

Ah, there’s one of the photos I saw and was curious again as to where and why you took this photo. Now I know. Yes, it is cool. Funny, because I always thought it was spelled Fleur-de-lis, but I just found out it can be spelled both as I said and as you have it written, Fleur-de-lys. Guess it’s true…we learn something new everyday. I love the fleur-de-lis for many reasons, but mostly because it simply reminds me of the city I grew up in and love so dearly. Following Hurricane Katrina, the fleur-de-lis had been widely used in New Orleans as a symbol of grassroots support for New Orleans’ recovery. Not that long ago, July, 2008, our state governor, Bobby Jindal signed a bill into law making the fleur-de-lis an official symbol of the state. Anywho, just wanted to share that with you.
    Thanks,
    Mirza

Mizra, it’s interesting how marks get used… The Fleur de Lys was on lots of coats of arms and sheilds and such. It was big in France and was a military symbol. It even got seared into the skin of people marked for murder at some point. Now it’s a decoration, like on my mother’s fence, and a symbol of hope, community and rebirth in New Orleans. Thanks for your comment. Very interesting :-)
